A quiet kraft-paper wrapping palette
One neutral base, one soft color and a small paper detail. A simple way to make parcels feel considered.

A limited palette takes a decision out of gift wrapping. Start with a plain paper base, then choose a single accent such as soft blue, dusty pink or pale yellow. You do not need to buy matching supplies: an existing offcut can be the starting point. This method is for a small, regular box; unusually shaped gifts are easier to place in a suitable box first.
Choose the pair before cutting
Lay a few paper scraps on the kraft paper in daylight. Pick one that is easy to distinguish from the base. Keep the tag plain if the band is patterned. There is no need to match every shade exactly; repeating one color is enough to connect the pieces.
Measure around the box
Wrap the paper loosely around the box before cutting. Leave a modest overlap along the main seam and enough paper at each end to cover it without bulky layers. Trim a little at a time. Use clean, dry paper; reused sheets work best when their existing folds are compatible with the box.
Make the plain wrap first
Secure the long seam, then fold the side flaps at each end inward. Fold the remaining top and bottom flaps into neat points or straight edges and tape them down. Keep the box on the table as you work. If the end becomes bulky, unfold it and reduce the excess paper rather than adding more tape.
Add one finishing strip
Cut a band from your colored paper, pass it around the finished parcel and join it at the back. Tuck a tag under the band or attach it lightly. Leave the front mostly clear so the name is easy to read. Avoid attaching loose decorations to gifts intended for small children.

Can I use a paper shopping bag?
A clean, uncoated bag can work after you remove handles and seams. Check that it is large enough and not too stiff to fold neatly.
Does kraft paper always recycle?
No single rule covers every finish or local collection. Check your local guidance, especially for coated, glittered or heavily taped paper.
